My plan was to go do ice hiking next full day. And when possible visit marble caves. The bus to Coyhaique goes (I hope) every day at 9 so there was no room to visit caves the morning before. I decided to do them right after arrival as there was a group coming and I was in the city quite soon maybe even faster than bus would do. They were nicely spent afternoon in this colourful caves on water. We did some rides through the caves and back in 2 hours.
Next morning early wake-up to meet our guide with the van to take us 52km up the mountains where the hike started. Rodrigez nicknamed Monkey was funny and friendly guy with little english. Amateur group to do couple fancy pictures, but we setup higher level respect with Monkey. We did 1.5h hike to glacier. Put on the crampons the special boots and started to hike glacier. It's not that straightforward as it looks due to skiddy character but also because the glacier can crack anytime. We later found the cave and tried to hike inside. Where others ended, Monkey let me discretely hike into the cave down to the lake with ice axe where I had to climb 2m high icy wall. Quite challenging but doable. And that was it. I would love to continue with more challenges but that would be for different tour.
Next day I was moving all the way down to Puyuhuapi by two 5 hours buses. The calm city on the next to Queulat national park my target for next day to see hanging glacier. The Carreta Austral has really a lot of beautiful scenery of untouched nature, mountains and greenery everywhere. Road was still unpaved at many parts. The road just before Puyuhuapi and Queulat is closed during the day. Makes my plans harder again but let's see. Time for some good food and sleep.
